It was by coincidence that, during New Zealand's COVID-19 lockdown, I plucked Kafka's Metamorphosis off my bookshelf for a re-read. Turning each page, the parallel of Gregor Samsa's transformation narrative to the global pandemic - though viral, not vermin - became apparent.

Inspired by Kafka's work, I illustrated a Covid-themed Metamorphosis comic, referencing lockdown feelings and activities: existential ponderings, fridge-raiding, excessive cleaning, household tensions, mental health-saving walks in local parks, and the longing for human contact. The text is a combination of Kafka's and my own.
